Fall 2006/Winter 2007 Military Fashion Trends

It's so true that "everything old is new again" at some point. I was surprised and had a bit of deja vu' when I saw the Melton wool pea coat offered by l.e.i. and also by Guess and by Michael Kors. I owned a pea coat in my early 20's, everyone did, it was the fad way back then.

Apparently the military look is forecast to be hot this fall season with all the big name designers jumping in. I've never been one for shoulder epaulets or cuff flaps or chest pockets, but they look chic on Diane von Furstenbergs wool utility dress and they help to give style to a rather drab camel color.

I'm not as sure about the Joie drawstring "You Shook Me" women's pants. They have large flap pockets on each side and drawstring cuffs and are offered in a pine green. Too close to military for me, looks like you're getting ready to jump out of a plane.

I really like the Halogen corded twill jacket. It's length hits just at the waist leaving lots of room for layering, which is also a very hot trend this season. It has a curved front accented with six buttons going all the way from the waist up to a high straight neck.

I don't mind "hints" and "suggestions" of military styling but I think that the DKNY offering of their Admiral's coat and their Officer's coat go a bit overboard and are way too military with the use of brass buttons, flap pockets and shoulder epaulets. To each is own.
